Transportation can be a complicated business. RPS’ Occupational Accident insurance provides benefits for eligible on-the-job accidents that owner/operators or contract drivers sustain while on dispatch with a motor carrier, protecting them from economic hardships following an occupational injury.
While there are instances where the risks are required by law to be covered by Workers Compensation, Occupational Accident coverage is designed as a flexible alternative that offer cost savings to the carrier and the independent contractor.
Coverage includes Survivors Benefits, Temporary Total Disability, Accidental Death, Dismemberment and Paralysis, Accidental Medical and Dental Expenses, Permanent Disability, and Non-Occupational Accident.
An additional benefit includes Contingent Indemnity Liability coverage, designed to protect motor carriers in the event someone is classified as an employee for Workers Compensation purposes. This coverage will pay the difference between the Occupational Accident benefits and the Workers Compensation statutory benefits. RPS’ carrier has Contingent Liability benefits up to $2M per person per accident. Legal defense costs are payable outside any benefit limit.
A minimum of three drivers are required for a risk to be eligible; RPS can write entire fleets as well. Monthly reporting options with non-working deposits are standard, which is helpful for operations with more turnover than others.
